CEDARTECH
CedarTech are here to provide a specialist and dedicated cedar maintenance & restoration service. Your cedar clad home is likely your family’s most valuable asset, and we’re here to help you protect it. Below is a list of the services we offer, all of which will keep your cladding looking great, maintain its integrity, add years to its lifespan and increase your property’s value as a whole in the process.
Keeping your timber protected from the elements is vital if you want to prolong the lifespan and integrity of your cladding system, not to mention keep your property protected and looking tip top. We are specialists in cedar preparation and in the application of the oils and stains required to do this, only using products specifically designed for New Zealand conditions.
Cedar needs to be professionally and thoroughly cleaned prior to treatment, and due to the softness of the timber we rely on chemicals along with specialist low pressure washers to not only lift existing product but also remove dust, mould, airborne contaminants and degraded surface fibres. Once carefully prepped, the cedar is left to dry and one coat of oil or two coats of stain are then applied. Left to fend for itself in NZ’s harsh conditions, cedar will eventually fall prey to a myriad of issues such as warping, cupping, splitting and rot - all of which are not only avoidable, but expensive to rectify. (See FAQ’s for more on stains and oils)
Your home should be washed down at least once a year, more if you live coastal or next to a busy road for example.
Regularly washing your home will maintain the appearance of your property whilst also providing your first line of defence in its protection. Moss, mould or even lichen and algae cannot grow on dry, clean timber as they all need some sort of contaminant to latch onto, so once your cladding has an effective coating, the removal of dust, pollen, salt and air pollutants will go a long way in preventing this. Plus it’ll leave your home looking vibrant and fresh and prolong the service life of its protective coating.
Cedar is beautiful and unique, but it’s also delicate and easily damaged. We have the correct equipment and the knowledge of cleaning agents required to wash your home effectively without damaging the timber itself or unnecessarily removing whatever protective coating has been used.
Prevention is better than cure, and this is why we offer a full maintenance program to our clients. Regular maintenance can dramatically extend the lifespan of your cladding, adding considerable value to your property as a whole in the process. Our maintenance program will ensure your property is kept looking great, and more importantly, protected from the elements for many years to come. It’s free to join, there is no obligation on your behalf to follow through with the works we recommend, and it will take the stress out of making sure your home is well protected from the elements, longterm.
We will visit your property once a year to assess and track your cedar's condition, provide a quote for its annual wash down, and recommend what elevations of your property (if any) will require some attention. Cedar left to fend for itself in NZ’s harsh conditions will before long require restoration treatments or worse, costing you significantly more in the long run. Our maintenance program is designed to avoid this whilst providing you with peace of mind in the process.
Garage and entrance doors are often one of the first things people will see when entering your home, and like any timber product they will require maintenance for longevity and appearance, or restoration if ignored for too long. Maintenance will usually involve just a light chemical wash followed by a maintenance coat, whereas restoration will usually involve stripping of the existing product, sanding back of the timber and then reapplication of your protective coating - one coat of oil for garage doors, or two coats of a hard wearing timber stain for entrance doors. We can also assist with doors that are made from other timbers as the process is largely the same as it is with cedar.
